cingular and skype

i just cancelled my cingular service today, though my account will remain active until august 11. i cancelled because cingular doesn't understand that suspending an account but still paying the monthly fee doesn't make any sense. and joining a family plan in which i would have to change my number and sign a new 2 year contract when i return also defeats the purpose of keeping the account. the cheapest way for me to get out of it was to cancel my account and never use cingular again. so there ya go. though i've got a year to decide, are there any suggestions for a new cell phone company? ;)

after i arrive in the DR and am given my makarios phone, i will set up SkypeIn. apparently i can choose up to 5 phone numbers so that those of you in the US can make a local call to talk to me. Three of the area codes I choose will be Austin, Dallas, and Houston. If you want dibs on another area code, let me know. i'll email further phone number details in a few weeks.

in the meantime, you can still reach me on my regular austin cell phone number through aug. 11th, though i can't guarantee i'll take calls after about 5pm eastern time, tuesday, july 18th. i'll be in flight and/or layover till that time. once i arrive in santiago, calls will cost me about $2/min. but i do think i can still receive text messages. and i will have a dial up internet connection at the house.

i leave in approximately 18 hours. i arrive in santiago about 12hrs later. i will stay the night in santiago and venture out to the house the next day. i'm not sure when i'll be online again, so don't panic if it takes me a while... ;)
