goodbye, austin

i've spent all day (and all month) packing. i now sit in my room with only the furniture, 2 overpacked suitcases and a carry-on, hoping that the few things which are not yet in one of these three bags will miraculously fit and still remain under 50 lbs each.

it's time to say goodbye to austin.

my wonderful friends have planed a send-off shindig for me this evening. i'm looking forward to seeing everyone one last time, but i'm also dreading the emotions i'm sure are to come, and, in fact, are already trying to emerge. i am at least thankful that i have such amazing friends over whom i can justifiably cry about leaving behind.

i will spend the weekend in irving with my family. i will spend tuesday in the air - and in 4 different airports. i will then spend the next year (with the wonderful exception of christmas break) in a country to which i have never even visited.

incredible.

this time last year, i was just beginning my life in austin. so much has happened in just over a year, and i can see God's hand in all of it. i'm looking forward to just as many miracles in the upcoming year.

(break for the shindig, and then i return...)

it was, indeed, very good to see these fantastic people one last time. and those emotions, well, they were there, too. but at least i was able to keep the tears for my drive home.

i want to sincerely thank everyone who showed up. it really meant a lot to me. and for those who were unable to make it, i know you had much greater responsibilites, and i appreciate you just the same. thanks for being a part of my life for the past 13.5 months. thanks for caring about me. thanks for loving me.

i miss you all already.

Lex! We miss you already too! Yesterday at church your smile was missed! I missed your hug - and although I'm really excited about what God has planned for you these next 12 months...you will be missed.

Love you friend. God be with you.

I hope to quote you in July 2007. This is going to be an even greater story than it already is. What will God do next?

Thanks for letting me borrow your room. And your furniture. And your stuff. Thanks for taking the risks and making the sacrifices that God is using to bless and provide for me. There will be many more people in the DR who won't have the opportunity to thank and tell you how God is blessing them through you. But maybe they'll follow your example.

Enjoy God's hand down there.
