ready or not, here it comes

but i am ready. it is the end of spring break and i am ready to go back to work.

it might be the change in the weather, and daylight savings, meaning lots of time to spend outside in the sun. sunshine makes me happy. it is scientifically proven that there is some something or other in the sun that makes people happy. it makes us feel less stressed. even for those who no longer get spring break and summer break, the warm weather and sunshine give that feeling and helps change out attitudes to one of having a bit of a break - even when we're stuck in an office all day.

but i hope it's not the weather. i hope i'm ready to go back for the simple fact that i have a good job. and i do have a good job. no, it's not perfect, but it's good.

it's easy to complain about work. especially when everyone around us is complaining about work. but i was hit with something this week as i was reading numbers 11. even after all the Lord has done for the Israelites - brought them out of Egypt, out from under the evil hand of Pharaoh, out of slavery -

...the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes.... 'Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at" (11:1, 4, 5).

And the taste of it (the manna) was like the taste of cakes baked with oil. When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it. (11:9)

So the people have gone from free fish while slaves, to free cake while free (free cake that just appears with the dew, might i add). What are they complaining about? I mean really, they can't be complaining about their freedom, can they? They say they're complaining about no meat, and as a girl who loves a good steak, I can sympathize. But would I give up my freedom for it? Yet don't I do this every time I complain about anything in my blessed life?

no, my life is not perfect. my job is not perfect. my friends are not perfect. my family is not perfect. but they are all good. they are all what the Lord has given me. this is where the Lord has put me for this time in my life.

so instead of dreading the first day of work after a break, i look forward to it. and i hope i continue to look forward to every day, no matter what the weather may do.
