gracias a dios
when classes started way back in september (it seems like ages ago), camille and i would either stop at a parada for la bandera during our break, or i would pack a lunch for us. we haven't done either of these things in several weeks, probably a month. but i have yet to go without a meal.we actually can't NOT eat lunch. but where we eat lunch always differs. it depends on who gets to us first - vilila, kati...
today it was judi, another one of my students, whose daughters also go to camille's classes. actually, it was her husband, martin, who approached me and asked me to come to his house for lunch. i had talked to him a few times and knew he lived in the area, but i did not realize he is judy's husband. so, when he offered, i kindly declined, not knowing his intentions. however, i quickly realized that i was very mistaken and that it was judy who was cooking for us.
we of course ate very well. but every time we thanked them, they wouldn't allow it. "no. no gracias a nosotros, gracias a dios. siempre." i told them how i love the generosity of the people in this country, explaining that i often go to a friends house in the states and am not given food. yet every day that i go to pancho mateo i cannot leave without having a meal. martin explained to me that they he understands our situation - that we are missionaries for God and so we, also, don't have much money. money is not important to them. they have food so they feed us because we work for the Lord. amazing.
we also found out a recent miracle in their family. several years ago judy found out that she had brain tumors - 3 of them, i believe. all of the visits to the doctor cost them a lot of money. she also had to have surgurey near her stomach (i'm not sure exactly where) where some of the tumors had spread, which, of course, was even more money that they did not have. but God always provided it for them, in one way or another. and now, the tumors are no more and judy is healthy, with three beautiful daughters and a God fearing husband.
"este es una casa de dios. gracias a dios."
