demasiado postings

ok, so i know i haven't been the most dedicated blogger over the past several weeks. i know many of you are used to reading an update from me every few days, and i've slacked down to one a week or less. i do apologize. in an attempt to catch up, i'm now posting several entries very close together. be careful what you wish for (if you were wishing at all).

so yesterday was high school graduation in Montellano (the small town that is in front of both Pancho Mateo and Caraballo). Angelina (Miguel's sister) and Dudu (a girl in Jennie's Bible study) were graduating, and several of my students would be there, so we decided to join in on the festivities.

we were told that graduation was to begin at 4:00 with a parade around town. so of course we didn't leave the house till about 4:00, knowing that, even though we had about a 30-45 minute drive ahead of us, we wouldn't be late.

it began to rain as we were leaving, and was pouring before we were out of the neighborhood. this was great practice for driving a standard in a foreign country while rain was making the already impossible roads even more adventurous. needless to say we took our time. we arrived in Montellano in plenty of time to find a place to stand to watch the graduates walk into the public school courtyard. thankfully they actually starting marching somewhat on time so they could finish the whole ceremony before the storm reached montellano. for once a bit of logical foresight- yea dominicans!

the ceremony was pretty much what you would expect for a high school graduation, except that miguel's family (with the exclusion of miguel) did not come to support their daughter and sister because they didn't have any new shoes to wear!

after the ceremony we went to the caraballo home in, where else, but caraballo, to continue celebrating with Angelina (it is, in fact, their grandfather for whom this bateye was named). it was great fun to get to sit around and enjoy conversation with that family and other friends who stopped by with their felicidades. and, as camille and i observed, it was our first night out of the house after taking a shower, actually doing something with our hair, and doning real clothing! que emocionada!
