what a week!
being a teacher definitely has it's advantages. one of those is spring break. i had a whole week to do whatever i wanted - essentially paid vacation. nice.it began pretty slowly - just catching up on sleep, cleaning, reading, and hanging out with new friends. and then an old friend from grad school came to visit. oh, the fun we had. reconnecting with old friends, a trip to the Alamo, and about 5hrs. crawling under the earth in dirt and clay. i'm sore in places i never knew could get sore, and i look like i've been abused, but it was more than worth it to now hear people say, "you went WHERE?" that's right, we went to airman's cave (thanks to whoever this guy is for the pic) at Austin's own 360 greenbelt. and we survived.
but one thing i DON'T like about these breaks is the end. being reminded of how much fun college is when 40-50hrs of your week isn't tied up makes it very difficult to go back to work. so now it's back to the grind. no more staying up till 2am and sleeping till 10am. much less time for friends and fun, and more time spent fulfilling obligations.
and much time will still be spent contemplating my future endeavors. i'm just about ready to sign on the dotted line to go spend a year in the DR. i've sent in the application, the board has approved me...now it's all up to me. just a week ago i was ready to make the decision and have it done so i could move ahead with whatever i decided. now i feel stuck in a rut. i'm still ready to make the decision, but the reality of it all is starting to set in. i knew it even before that there will be difficulties all along the way, but they are now becoming a more prominent part of my thought processes.
satan has a funny way of working. exciting times are used to bring us down. a nice break and exciting opportunities are turned to the drudgery of returning to work and the weight of inevitable hardships. i see more clearly every day the cost of following Christ. i'm amazed at the Grace He has on me that allows me to continue.
