rainbows and God's promises

i saw a rainbow on the way to work this morning.

this was beautiful for a few reasons.

one: austin has seen no significant rain fall since, well, i don't know when. ok, so it rained last friday night. but you couldn't even tell saturday morning, that's how desperately dry this land is.

two: it reminded me of God's promises.

i was reading in Psalm 38 today. it doesn't say specifically, but i assume it's a Psalm of David. David who, for much of his life, was running from his enemies. David, who sinned greatly against the Lord, and one of his best men, and finally felt the weight of what he had done.

he starts out with a lament.

1: O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath!

but then he rejoices.

15: But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you who will answer.

and this reminds me of the Lord's faithfulness. the rainbow is a sign of God's promises. sometimes life is dry. sometimes it feels like the drought (the stress, the loneliness, the financial strains, the busyness) will never end. but the Lord is faithful. when we wait on him, the rain (peace, comfort, provision, sanity) will come.
