it's official!

i just turned in my "letter of intent." i checked the box that says, "I do NOT intent to return." whoa. so this is for real now. but it feels surreal. i feel like i'm 5 years old again and playing make believe...

"let's pretend we live in the caribbean. we go to the beach every day and eat fresh fruit. i'll be a teacher and you can be my student..."

but the reality is that in about 4 months i'll be packed up and on a plane heading to hispanola...for a year. now in the whole scheme of things that's a very short time. those who started the american missionary movement hundreds of years ago left for life - never to return even for furlough. and here i go to "test the waters" for a measly 365 (approximately) days. it's exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

since i'm embarking on this new adventure, i've decided to use this blog as a way to keep you informed of the most recent news. i will also send out newsletters via email, but the daily/weekly happenings, and pictures, will appear here. so feel free to spread the word concerning this web address.

my first mission is to begin raising support. i really don't like asking people for money, but i've got to do it if i want to go. I need to raise approximately $1,000/mo. for a total for $12,000. it would be GREAT to have all of this by the beginning of June, though I will be more than happy to continue accepting funds after that date. so if you or anyone you know would like to support me, please let me know. i'll be sending out a snail mail letter in the near future with more details.

thanks to everyone for your prayers. i don't know if you'll ever understand how much they mean to me.
