today i saw a pig on a moto
and there's not really much else to be said about that. just that i saw a pig on a moto. yes, it was alive, and squealing. and the other dominicans that were standing at the corner with me also thought it was unusual. and it's unusual for dominicans to think such a thing is unusual. it made me laugh.and for the rest of the day i was overwhelmed with concern about my health. on monday and tuesday, jennie went to chichigua and pancho mateo to let my students know that i wouldn't be there for class because she and camille left me sick in santiago. apparently they interpreted this to mean that i was on my deathbed, because when i arrived today, i was given so many remedies i couldn't remember them all. it actually surprised me when one of the men suggested that i might have had a parasite. i thought i was being overdramatic in my original suggestion that this might be the cause for my symptoms, but he assured me i need to go to the hospital to get it checked out.
as i was about to leave pancho mateo, vilila (the lady who fed me TOO MUCH food) passed by and asked if i was coming to her house. well how could i refuse? she made sure that i got, not only my cafecito, but also food for my belly, fresh juice for good health, and tea to help me feel better.
after i left vilila's i went in search of camille so we could head to the gym, and i found her in the house of kati. kati is one of my students, the mother of two of camille's students, and also runs the colmado just a few houses down from the school (it was her husband, in fact, who diagnosed my parasite). before i could leave she made sure i had the ingredients to make a tea that is supposed to help the common cold. i've never made tea from scratch, and definitely not with celery and pepper, but it was quite good.
i am well taken care of here, that's for sure.
